Sewing Machines with Adjustable Stitch Length

The ability to change stitch length is a must to achieve quality results on various fabrics. Most machines can change the stitch length from 0 - 5mm, with either the turn of a dial or press of a button.

Lighter-weight fabrics need a shorter stitch length to prevent gathering and pulling, where as thicker fabrics require a longer stitch length. Likewise, finer threads need a shorter stitch and thicker threads a longer stitch. 

Shorter stitches give a seam more strength and make sewing curves neater.  A longer stitch length is great for basting, gathering and top stitching plus they are much easier to unpick!
