PFAFF Quilt Expression 725 Product Review
The PFAFF Quilt Expression 725 is a computerised sewing and quilting machine for ambitious sewers, quilters and dressmakers wanting smart features, advanced technology and plenty of workspace.
The Original IDT System from PFAFF acts as a built-in walking foot precisely feeding all types of fabric from the top and bottom for perfect stitching every time. It's a game changer for sewers working with knit fabrics, quilts or dressmakers working with slippery materials like viscose, chiffon, silk or lace.
Creative makers will enjoy the 730 built-in stitches and six sewing fonts covering utility, quilting and decorative options for everyday construction through to intricate detailed finishing. The exclusive PFAFF stitch techniques add creative details like ribbon stitches, lace edges and floating stitches, while STITCH CREATOR lets you build or edit your own 9mm stitches. This breadth suits quilters and dressmakers who want decorative finishing without buying separate accessories.
With nearly 10 inches (250 mm) of sewing space to the right of the needle, it gives you room to manage full-size quilts, curtains and other large makes without fighting the bulk of the fabric. This is a machine for someone ready to take on ambitious projects and keep them moving. A top-loading bobbin sits under a straight-stitch needle plate sensor and the machine handles the routine tasks for you with an automatic needle threader, Auto-Snip thread cutter, automatic presser foot lift and a start/stop button for sewing without the foot control.
Adjustable Laser Guidance projects a line onto the fabric for aligned seams and quilting lines, automatic thread tension adapts as you sew, and the included knee lift frees both hands for guiding fabric.
Enjoy seamless CREATIVATE Connectivity, allowing compatible devices to communicate wirelessly, receive automatic updates and access ongoing inspiration directly from PFAFF.

Materials and Build Quality
The legendary Original IDT System from PFAFF acts as a built-in walking foot precisely feeding all types of fabric from the top and bottom for perfect stitching every time. It works with a lever behind the presser foot bar engaging a second set of feed teeth. It's a game changer for sewers working with knit fabrics, quilts or dressmakers working with slippery materials like viscose, chiffon, silk or lace.
PFAFF has been manufacturing precision-engineered sewing machines for 160 years. Recognised for clean and consistent stitches, especially on tricky fabrics like knits or multiple layers, they offer an elevated sewing experience. The jam-proof rotary hook ensures no threads get caught in the bobbin area for fuss-free sewing every time.
The top-loading bobbin drops in from above for quick reloading and clear sight of how much thread remains. Automatic thread tension reads the stitch and fabric and adjusts continuously while you sew, supported by a straight-stitch needle plate sensor that protects the needle plate when a straight-stitch plate is fitted.
The Difference is in the Details
Considered features on the Expression 725 remove small friction points for an optimal and seamless sewing experience. With a top speed of 1,050 stitches per minute, it keeps pace with long seams and repetitive piecing. The Auto-Snip thread cutter trims top and bobbin threads on command, the start/stop button lets you sew without the foot pedal, and needle up/down sets the needle position for pivoting and detailed work. Automatic presser foot lift keeps your hands free as you reposition fabric.
Automatic thread tension does the balancing for you, reading the stitch type and fabric and adjusting as you work for clean stitch formation on both sides. Patented ActivStitch technology monitors fabric and settings to regulate the thread, which means consistent stitches as you move between weights and stitch types without stopping to fine-tune.
PFAFF machines are engineered for lasting performance, with a robust internal design that maintains stitch precision even with regular use. With proper care and servicing, you can rely on consistent, high-quality results for years to come. PFAFF sewing machines come with a 5-year parts and 2-year labour warranty. The Sewing Studio is an authorised service centre for all PFAFF machines.
PFAFF sewing machines are designed for user comfort combining durable technology with artful operation. The bright LCD screen displays your chosen stitch and sewing settings while the Info Button displays helpful tips and recommendations when needed. Optimized bright lights illuminate the entire work area with fewer shadows. Choose from 13 languages in the Settings menu to make sure your PFAFF Expression 725 sewing machine speaks the same language you do. PFAFF's printed manual covers each stitch and function in detail, so you can work through the machine's full feature set at your own pace.
PFAFF Quilt Expression 725: A Machine for Every Maker
And every project
Quilting Larger Projects
With nearly 10 inches of sewing space and the Original IDT System engaged, the 725 gives quilts room to move and keeps piecing accurate across a full top.
Garment Sewing
Six sewing fonts, a one-step buttonhole and 9mm stitch width cover the essentials of dressmaking, from labelling makes to neat closures. Automatic thread tension and the IDT System keep seams even across the different fabric weights a wardrobe project calls for.
Decorative and Creative Work
Exclusive PFAFF stitch techniques add ribbon stitches, lace edges and floating stitches, and STITCH CREATOR lets you design original 9mm stitches. For makers working on home furnishing and personalised detail, this is where the 725 earns its place.
Inside the PFAFF Quilt Expression 725
Original IDT System
PFAFF's Integrated Dual Feed has been in production since 1968 and is engaged directly on the machine. It is the feature the quilt expression range is built around, and the reason the 725 needs no separate walking foot for layered work.
STITCH CREATOR Function
STITCH CREATOR lets you build entirely new 9mm stitches or edit existing ones directly on the touchscreen. Each design saves to the machine, so your own stitch ideas become repeatable additions to the library.
Adjustable Laser Guidance
A laser projects an adjustable alignment line directly onto the fabric ahead of the needle. You follow the projected line rather than marking the fabric, which keeps long seams and quilting rows straight.
Presser Foot Recognition
The machine detects the fitted presser foot and flags whether it suits your selected stitch. This guards against running a stitch with the wrong foot, protecting both your work and the needle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Let us help with the answers.
Is the PFAFF Quilt Expression 725 suitable for quilting larger projects?
Yes. The sewing space measures nearly 10 inches to the right of the needle, which gives quilts and larger pieces of fabric room to move. The Original IDT System feeds layers evenly from top and bottom, so piecing and quilting stay accurate across a full top.
What does the Original IDT System actually do?
The IDT System grips and feeds fabric from both the top and the bottom at the same time, rather than relying only on the feed dogs underneath. This keeps multiple layers moving together, which helps prevent shifting and puckering on quilts, fine fabrics and matched seams.
Do I need a walking foot for this machine?
No. The Original IDT System is built into the machine and performs the even-feeding job that a separate walking foot does on many other machines. You engage it directly rather than fitting an additional foot for layered or slippery fabrics.
Can it handle heavy fabrics and several layers?
The 725 has electronic needle piercing power for stitching through heavier fabrics and multiple layers without hesitation. Combined with the IDT System and a stable 11.5kg body, it copes with quilting layers and thicker garment fabrics, though very dense industrial materials sit outside any domestic machine's range.
Does it come with everything I need to start sewing?
Yes. The 725 ships with ten presser feet including a 1/4" quilting foot and buttonhole feet, plus bobbins, an edge/quilting guide, a knee lift, a straight stitch plate and the usual maintenance tools. You can begin sewing and quilting straight out of the box.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
