These are the most frequently asked questions about William Morris Fabric:

Can I Buy William Morris Fabric by the Metre?

Yes. Every William Morris print in this collection is cut to length, sold and priced per quarter metre. Order as many quarter metres as you need and we supply them as one continuous piece. If you would rather have a coordinated set, several ranges also come as fat quarter bundles, layer cakes and charm packs.

Is This William Morris Fabric Suitable for Curtains or Upholstery?

Our William Morris fabric is quilting-weight cotton, made for patchwork, quilts, cushions, bags and table runners. It can work for light curtains or blinds with a lining, but it is not a heavyweight upholstery fabric. For sofas and armchairs, look for a furnishing-weight Morris weave instead.

What Is William Morris' Most Famous Fabric Design?

Strawberry Thief is usually named as Morris' best-known design. He created it in 1883, inspired by thrushes stealing fruit in his kitchen garden at Kelmscott Manor. Other much-loved designs include Willow Bough, Acanthus and Wandle, and many of these motifs appear in the quilting ranges we stock.

What Is the Difference Between Morris & Co and Morris-Inspired Fabric?

Morris & Co fabric is licensed from the archive of the company William Morris founded, so the prints reproduce his original designs. Morris-inspired ranges, such as Moda's Morris Manor and Morris Muse by Barbara Brackman, draw on the same Arts and Crafts motifs and colours but are newly drawn collections. We stock both, and each product page tells you which it is.

Which William Morris Pre-Cuts Do You Stock?

We stock Moda Morris Manor as a 33-piece fat quarter bundle and a layer cake, and Moda Morris Muse as fat quarter bundles, a jelly roll, a layer cake, a charm pack and a mini charm. Pre-cuts give you the whole range in matching sizes, which makes them a quick way to start a Morris quilt.

William Morris Quilting Fabric From Morris & Co, Moda and Kaffe Fassett

William Morris designed some of the most recognisable patterns in British textile history, from trailing willow boughs to river-inspired florals. Our William Morris fabric brings those designs to quilting cotton, so you can piece them into quilts, cushions, bags and table runners rather than hang them at a window.

The Ranges We Stock

Morris & Co and the Kaffe Fassett Collective have reworked classic Morris designs in bold, saturated colour, including Wandle, Branches, Michaelmas Daisy, Oak and India. The Trellis Palette from Morris & Co takes a softer route, with Kelmscott Water, River Wandle and Sweetbriar in chalky, natural tones. From Moda, Barbara Brackman's Morris Manor and Morris Muse collections reinterpret Morris-era florals, scrolls, damasks and leaf blenders in ebony, sage, twilight and parchment.

By the Metre or Pre-Cut

Every print is cut to length from a quarter metre and supplied as one continuous piece when you order more. If you want the whole collection in one go, the Morris Manor and Morris Muse ranges also come as fat quarter bundles, layer cakes, charm packs and mini charms.

Finishing Your Morris Quilt

Busy Morris prints work best with a calm backing and a good wadding. Pair them with our quilt backing and quilt wadding, and browse our free quilt patterns, including several designed for Morris fabric. Because we sell sewing machines as well as fabric, we can also help you choose a walking foot or a quilting sewing machine that handles the layers.
