The opportunity

The Sewing Studio is a leading UK specialist sewing machine and quilting fabric retailer, trading internationally from our Redruth base through our retail store and a thriving Shopify Plus online business. We're a team of 18+ people running a multimillion pound business that has grown consistently year on year, with even more ambitious plans for the years ahead.

We're looking for an Accounts & Finance Manager to own our finances end to end. That means running the day to day accounts and building the monthly management reporting that helps the Directors steer a fast growing company. This is a genuine all round finance role with real influence on how the business is run.

As the business grows, this role grows with it. Continuous improvement runs through everything we do, our systems, our processes and our people, and we'll back yours with funded professional study (CIMA or similar) if that's what the right candidate wants, ongoing training and a remit that expands as the company scales. We're not hiring someone to sit in the same seat for five years, we're hiring someone with ambition who wants to work hard, get results and grow into leading our finance function.

What you'll do

• Own the day to day finances: bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, supplier payments, expenses.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and work with our external accountants on year end and tax.
• Forecast and manage cash flow.
• Produce monthly management accounts, including gross margin analysis and budget versus actual reporting.
• Develop profitability reporting by product, brand and sales channel using Xero, Shopify Plus and our analytics tools.
• Prepare budgets for Director approval and meet monthly with our Marketing and E-Commerce Managers to review spend, ROI and pricing.

Who this suits

This role is built for someone who wants more than a bookkeeping job. The transactional work is the foundation, not the ceiling. Within your first year you will be producing management accounts and margin reporting that directly shape business decisions and you will present your findings to the Directors every month.

You might be AAT Level 4 qualified and ready for a bigger role, part qualified CIMA or ACCA looking for a business that will fund your studies, or qualified by experience and hungry for more responsibility. What matters most is ambition. If you want to keep the books tidy and go home, this is not the role for you. If you want to grow into the finance lead of an ambitious company, it is.

What you'll need

• Solid double entry bookkeeping and financial administration experience.
• AAT Level 4, part qualified CIMA/ACCA or equivalent experience.
• Confidence with cloud accounting software (we use Xero) and strong Excel skills.
• Sharp analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• The ambition to develop into management accounts and financial analysis. This is a requirement of the role, not a nice to have.

Nice to have

• Experience producing management accounts.
• Retail or e-commerce experience, ideally with Shopify or similar.
• Payroll experience.

• £31,000 - £38,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The Sewing Studio are looking for a new presenter to join Jeanette and the team, creating fun, informative and inspiring video content for our growing community of makers. With an audience of close to 200,000 across YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, you'll help inspire quilters and sewers around the world, sharing skills, creativity and the joy of making.

The opportunity

As our presenter, you'll be a familiar and friendly face on our channels, bringing sewing and quilting content to life on camera in both long and short formats.

You'll work alongside our team to plan, develop and film a wide variety of videos including step-by-step tutorials and how-to's, quilting projects and techniques, seasonal makes and creative inspiration, machine demonstrations, and tips and tricks for makers of every level from first-time stitchers to confident quilters.

We'll be relying on you for fresh ideas too. You'll play an active part in shaping our content, suggesting new video concepts and helping us keep our community engaged, entertained and inspired.

About you

• You'll be genuinely passionate about sewing, quilting and crafting.
• You'll be comfortable, confident and engaging in front of the camera, with the ability to explain techniques clearly while keeping things warm and fun to watch.
• You'll be full of fresh, creative content ideas and excited about developing them with the team.
• You'll be able to travel to our studio in Redruth, Cornwall for filming.
• Previous presenting or content creation experience is a bonus, but what matters most is your passion, personality and knowledge of your craft.
