bernette b33 Product Review and Demonstration
The bernette b33 is an affordable, stylish, and easy-to-use sewing machine that's ready to bring your ideas to life. It's perfect for beginners who want to master the basics of sewing, dressmaking, quilting and crafting on a compact, affordable and reliable machine.
Setup is remarkably simple thanks to the semi-automatic needle threader. It's almost effortless to control with settings adjusted using two intuitive dials - one to select the stitch and the other to adjust stitch length and width.
There are 15 stitches to choose from including a 4-step buttonhole, covering everyday seams, hems, mending and light decorative work. Stitch width reaches 5mm, useful for borders and appliqué once you're ready to experiment.
The 2-step presser foot lift raises the foot higher than usual, so you can guide thicker fabrics and several layers underneath with less resistance. Five snap-on presser feet are included, letting you move between zips, buttonholes, blind hems and general sewing as your projects grow. A reverse lever handles backstitching to lock the start and end of each seam.
Beginners consistently find the b33 approachable, helped by the reassurance of a durable metal frame that's built to last. It suits first-time sewers in the UK who want to learn on something dependable, with enough range to stay useful well beyond the early projects.

Frequently Asked Questions About the bernette b33
Let us help with the answers.
Is the bernette b33 suitable for beginners?
Yes. This is a mechanical machine built specifically for people learning to sew. Two simple dials, a semi-automatic needle threader and 15 practical stitches keep the learning curve gentle while you build confidence.
How many stitches does the bernette b33 have?
The b33 has 15 built-in stitches, including a buttonhole. These cover straight and zigzag seams, hems, and light decorative work, which is a genuinely usable range for everyday sewing.
Can the bernette b33 sew thicker fabrics?
Yes, within reason. The raised foot position gives clearance for denim seams and layered fabric. For frequent heavy canvas or leather, we'd recommend a heavier-duty model.
Does the bernette b33 have a needle threader?
Yes. The semi-automatic threader hooks the thread through the needle eye, so you skip the fiddly part and get sewing sooner.
What warranty comes with the bernette b33?
The b33 comes with a 2-year parts and labour warranty as standard, backed by The Sewing Studio as an authorised bernette dealer and service centre.
How fast does the bernette b33 sew?
The b33 sews at up to 860 stitches per minute. You control the pace through the foot pedal, which gives you room to slow down for detailed work or speed up on long, straight seams.
Is the bernette b33 Easy to Set Up?
Yes. Threading is guided by the semi-automatic threader and the two dials are clearly marked, so most beginners are sewing within minutes of unboxing.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
