bernette b77 Product Review & Demonstration
The bernette b77 is built for sewers and quilters looking for excellent build quality, versatility, intuitive controls and ease of use. It's a solid choice for sewers working with a wide range of fabrics - the integrated Dual Feed fabric control delivers perfect stitch quality on even the lightest fabrics including silk and chiffon.
Creative sewers will enjoy the 500 built-in stitches which includes 22 utility, 133 decorative options including floral, satin and ornamental. There are also 35 quilting stitches and 17 buttonhole styles, plus 3 alphabets for personalisation and labelling. Custom stitch settings can be saved to personal memory and recalled for future projects, which keeps repeat work consistent.
The generous 9 inch throat space and included extension table give quilters room to manoeuvre full size projects with ease. A semi automatic needle threader lowers the presser foot into position and threads the needle for you, while the automatic thread cutter trims top and bobbin threads in a single step. Quilters who enjoy free motion work will also appreciate the included free motion foot.
The 5-inch colour touchscreen sits centrally on the machine, with multi-function knobs to adjust stitch length and width on the fly. A knee lift frees both hands for fabric guiding and the programmable foot control with back-kick function lets you trim and tie off with a heel tap.

Materials and Build Quality
bernette is part of the BERNINA family built with the same meticulous attention to detail. They are built to last, reflecting over a century of Swiss precision engineering. Both brands use high-quality metal components, tight manufacturing tolerances and robust internal mechanisms rather than cheaper alternatives. With readily available parts and strong service support, these machines are designed to deliver reliable performance over years of use.
The b77 is built around a robust metal chassis. The compact external footprint keeps the machine portable while the internal structure carries the workload of a heavier build.
The b77 uses a top-loading rotary hook system with a clear bobbin cover, so you can monitor remaining thread easily. The hook is positioned for clean thread pickup at the recommended speed range, and the metal components in the bobbin race are engineered to handle continuous use across both garment and quilting workloads.
Four bright LEDs light the sewing area across the 9-inch throat space to the right of the needle, removing shadows under the presser foot. The slide-on extension table extends the working surface for larger projects and is included in the box.
The Difference is in the Details
The b77 sews at up to 1,000 stitches per minute. The automatic thread cutter trims top and bobbin in one action and the programmable foot control with back-kick function lets you tie off and cut with a heel tap.
The integrated Dual Feed handles slippery silks, layered quilts and stretch knits, delivering reliable and beautiful stitch quality. Combined with the rotary hook system and adjustable presser foot pressure, results stay even across fabric weights. Tension can be fine-tuned on the touchscreen for trickier materials.
The on-screen Sewing Consultant recommends the right stitch and presser foot for your chosen fabric and project. You'll also find a detailed tutorial on the b77 key features as well as how to get started on our YouTube channel.
Bernette sewing machines are designed with ease of use and intuitive controls in mind. The 5-inch colour touchscreen is easy to see, with simple, quick-operation multi-function knobs for adjusting stitch length and width. The included knee lift raises and lowers the presser foot hands-free so you can keep guiding fabric.
The bernette b77: A Machine for Every Maker
And every project
For Dressmakers
The bernette b77 is an excellent choice for dressmakers who demand versatility and precision. From slippery linings, garment leather, chiffon layers and stretch knits, the b77 Dual Feed handles all fabric types with ease. With 500 built-in stitches including satin stitch options, there's no shortage of creative and functional possibilities, while the 17 buttonhole styles let you match the perfect finish to any garment. Dressmakers looking for professional results will also appreciate the twin needle capability for detailed hems and the 15 needle positions, giving you fine control over stitch placement for impeccable topstitching, edge work and decorative details.
For Quilters
Makers who focus on quilting will appreciate the generous workspace and included extension table for larger size quilts and bulky projects. There are 35 quilting stitches built-in plus a free motion foot is included. The alphabet stitch options enable you to create bespoke and personalised touches including quilt labels for initials and dates.
For Creative Makers
The b77 is perfect for sewers who move between different projects. The large workspace and strong fabric handling are excellent for curtains, cushions, quilts and other larger home furnishing projects. The powerful motor and stable build help manage thicker fabrics and layered materials for bags, pouches and accessories too.
Inside the bernette b77 Sewing Machine
Integrated Dual Feed System
Dual Feed pulls fabric simultaneously from above and below using built-in feed mechanics, keeping layered, slippery and stretchy fabrics moving evenly through the seam without shifting or puckering.
5-Inch Colour Touchscreen
The centrally positioned colour touchscreen displays stitch previews, settings and the on-screen Sewing Consultant, with multi-function knobs alongside it for adjusting length and width without menu navigation.
Stitch Memory and Personalisation
Custom stitch settings can be saved to personal memory and recalled for future projects, which keeps repeat work consistent and removes the need to reconfigure stitches each time.
Programmable Foot Control with Back-Kick
The foot control includes a programmable back-kick function, letting you assign actions like thread cutting or tie-off to a heel tap, keeping your hands free on the fabric.
Semi-Automatic Needle Threader
The threader lowers the presser foot to the correct position and holds the thread in place while the needle is threaded, removing fiddly setup at the start of every project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Let us help with the answers.
Is the bernette b77 suitable for beginners?
The b77 sits at the top of the bernette range. Confident beginners will find the on-screen Sewing Consultant and clear touchscreen interface manageable, but it's most at home with sewers ready to grow into a feature-rich machine rather than absolute first-timers.
How does the Integrated Dual Feed differ from a Walking Foot?
A walking foot clips on when needed, while Dual Feed is built into the machine and engages with a switch. It feeds fabric from top and bottom simultaneously, which is particularly useful for quilting layers, slippery silks and stretch knits without changing accessories mid-project.
Can the b77 handle quilting out of the box?
Yes. The 9-inch throat space, included extension table, free machine quilting foot, drop feed dogs and 35 quilting stitches mean you can piece and free motion quilt without buying additional accessories.
What does the Sewing Consultant actually do?
The Sewing Consultant is built into the touchscreen and recommends the right stitch, stitch settings and presser foot for the fabric and project you're working on. It's particularly useful when trying a new technique, removing some of the guesswork around setup.
Does the b77 have embroidery capability?
No. The b77 focuses purely on sewing and quilting. If embroidery matters to you, look at the Bernette B79, which adds an embroidery module to a similar sewing platform. Our team can talk you through the differences if you're weighing the two.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
