baby lock Aspire Product Review
The baby lock Aspire is an incredibly versatile all-in-one powerhouse built for dressmakers who want professional-quality without the complexity of setting up. It simultaneously handles overlock, cover stitch and combination stitches in a single machine. It's a superb choice for hems, decorative seams or joining seams on both woven and knit fabrics, whether at the fabric's edge or in its centre.
You can combine nearly any overlock stitch with any cover stitch with up to 8 threads (when using the optimal spool holder) to create decorative details and finishing touches that elevate your work to a professional level. The stitch length can be set with just one dial to suit your project. At the same time, you can easily switch to the rolled hem function without having to carry out any additional steps. In the rolled hem setting, the stitch finger is in a lowered position. This enables a very narrow seam.
The ExtraordinAir™ system uses air pressure to thread both the overlock looper and chain looper at the touch of a button. Optimised thread paths mean the machine easily manages even thicker decorative threads without manual intervention. The ATD (Automatic Thread Delivery) system monitors and adjusts thread tension as you sew, so you do not need to stop and change tension settings as you move between fabric types or stitch configurations.
The new generation Trim Catcher with its integrated needle collection tray attaches to the machine during use while keeping all adjustment dials accessible. A practical accessory compartment is built into the machine body. LED lighting provides clear visibility across the working area.

Materials and Build Quality
The ExtraordinAir™ system threads the overlock and chain looper using air pressure, which removes the need for manual looper threading. The optimised thread paths are designed to handle a wide range of thread types including thicker decorative threads without needing manual adjustment - which means sewers who have previously found looper threading difficult can thread up and start sewing in seconds.
The ATD (Automatic Thread Delivery) system monitors thread delivery as you sew and adjusts tension automatically to suit the stitch type and fabric in use. This works alongside the lay-in tension dials, so thread is set and maintained without the need for manual tension changes mid-project.
The vertical needle system positions the needle to penetrate fabric directly from above, which improves stitch placement and is particularly effective on heavier or layered materials. Differential feed, adjustable from 0.6 to 2.0, controls how the front and back feed dogs move relative to each other, preventing knit fabrics from stretching and fine fabrics from puckering during sewing.
The Difference is in the Details
The Aspire can sew up to 1,500 stitches per minute on any finishing task. The knee lever keeps the presser foot controlled without taking your hands off the work and the newly designed trim catcher collects thread tails to keep your sewing space tidy.

baby lock Aspire: A Machine for Every Maker
And every project
Professional Finishes on Knits and Stretch Fabrics
The Aspire handles stretch knits, fine wovens and heavier materials without puckering or distortion for professional-quality seam finishes across the full range of your projects.
Setup Without the Frustration
Setting the machine ready to sew takes minutes. ExtraordinAir™ threading works at the touch of a button and the ATD system takes care of tension from the first stitch.
A Compact All-Rounder
The Aspire functions as both a fully-fledged overlocker and as a complete coverstitch machine - both functions operate simultaneously. It's your creative partner for professional seams at home.
Inside the baby lock Aspire
Vertical Needle System
The needle penetrates fabric from directly above, reducing lateral movement through the material. This improves stitch accuracy and is extremely effective when working through heavier weights or layers.
Foot Lift Height
The Aspire has an extra high, two-stage foot lift of up to 8 mm. This means that even thicker layers of fabric fit between the foot and the feed dog - ideal if you work with thicker fabrics
Differential Feed
Front and rear feed dogs operate independently at a ratio adjustable from 0.6 to 2.0. This controls fabric movement precisely, preventing stretch knits from distorting and stopping fine wovens from gathering under the foot.
Practical Accessory Compartment
Store all your important utensils in the practical accessory compartment located under the spool holder. Accessories include tweezers, needles, spare needle screws, a spare knife, a screwdriver for needle screws and a brush with guide for inserting the needles.
Trim Catcher and Subsidiary Looper
The new generation Trim Catcher attaches to the machine during use, collecting thread tails without obstructing the adjustment dials. The subsidiary looper expands the stitch repertoire, enabling additional decorative and combination stitch options beyond standard overlock configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ATD System and how does it work?
The ATD (Automatic Thread Delivery) system monitors thread delivery as you sew and adjusts tension to suit the stitch and fabric in use. You do not need to stop and manually change tension settings when switching between fabric types. It works across all stitch configurations the Aspire offers.
How does ExtraordinAir Threading work in practice?
The ExtraordinAir system uses air pressure to carry thread through the overlock and chain looper paths. You place the thread at the entry point and press the button. Both loopers thread in seconds, which makes reconfiguring the machine for a different stitch type considerably quicker than threading a conventional overlocker manually.
Can the baby lock Aspire handle stretch fabrics?
Yes. The differential feed is adjustable from 0.6 to 2.0, which gives you control over how the front and rear feed dogs move relative to each other. On stretch knits, setting the differential feed above 1.0 prevents the fabric from stretching as it passes under the foot, so seams stay flat and stable.
What is the difference between overlock and cover stitch modes?
Overlock stitches trim and neaten a seam edge in one pass, which is used for joining and finishing fabric pieces. Cover stitch uses two or three needles to produce a row of parallel stitches on top and a looped stitch underneath, used for hems on stretch garments. The Aspire handles both modes, as well as combination stitches that use elements of each.
Is the Aspire suitable for sewers new to overlocking?
The Aspire is aimed at sewers who are ready to move past basic finishing and want more stitch control and capability than an entry-level overlocker provides. The ExtraordinAir threading and automatic tension make the technical side of setup more manageable, but familiarity with overlock sewing and stitch types will help you get the most from the machine from the outset.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
