Brother 4234D Overlocker Product Review and Demonstration
The Brother 4234D is a capable 2/3/4 thread overlocker that gives both beginners and experienced sewers a strong, shop-bought finish on seams and edges. It's incredibly easy to use with a stitching speed of up to 1,300 stitches per minute. The smooth operation ensures consistent results, whether you're sewing a single garment or working on bulk orders.
Sewing cuffs, sleeves, and tubular items has never been easier. The 4234D's free arm design provides the flexibility you need for precision on smaller projects, while its compact footprint fits comfortably in your workspace.
Overlockers have a reputation for fiddly threading, but this one keeps setup simple and fuss-free with a built-in needle threader that threads both needles, a colour-coded threading guide and the F.A.S.T. (Fast and Simple Threading) lower looper system.
With nine built-in stitch types, the 4234D handles 4-thread overlock, 3-thread narrow and wide overlock, 2 and 3-thread flatlock, pin tuck, blind hem, rolled hem and narrow hem. Adjustable stitch width of 5.0 to 7.0mm from the left needle and stitch length of 2.0 to 4.0mm give you control across different fabrics and finishes. Switching to a rolled hem is quick, with no need to change the needle plate.
Differential feed is particularly useful for knits and lightweight fabrics, keeping stretchy materials from waving and fine fabrics from puckering.
The integrated trimming blade and extra bright LED light keep edges neat and clearly lit. A blind stitch foot is included for invisible hems straight away.
Backed by a 3-year UK warranty, it's a machine that suits a first overlocker purchase and grows with you as your skills develop.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Brother 4234D
Let us help with the answers.
Is the Brother 4234D suitable for beginners?
Yes. While the manufacturer rates it for intermediate and expert use, the built-in needle threader, colour-coded guide and F.A.S.T. lower looper system make threading far simpler, so it's well suited to a first overlocker.
What stitches can the Brother 4234D sew?
It offers nine built-in stitch types: 4-thread overlock, 3-thread narrow and wide overlock, 2 and 3-thread flatlock, pin tuck, blind hem, rolled hem and narrow hem, covering seams, edges and decorative finishes.
Can the Brother 4234D sew stretchy fabrics?
Yes. By adjusting how the upper and lower feed dogs move the fabric, the differential feed handles stretchy knits and jersey cleanly and stops fine fabrics gathering.
How do I sew a rolled hem on the Brother 4234D?
To sew a rolled hem, retract the stitch finger. There is no needle plate to change, so you can move from a standard seam to a fine hem quickly.
Is a blind stitch foot included?
Yes. A blind stitch foot is supplied in the box alongside the standard foot, so you can sew invisible hems straight away without buying extra accessories.
What warranty comes with the Brother 4234D?
The Brother 4234D comes with a 3-year UK parts and labour warranty for home use. Machines used commercially are covered for 1 year.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
