Janome 6700p Sewing Machine Review
If you’re looking for an all-round workhorse in a sewing machine, then look no further than the Janome Memory Craft 6700P!
This machine includes many features that you will not find as standard on many machines for a similar price. You will want for nothing if you have this machine in your sewing studio, no matter what you are creating.
First of all, this machine is a workhorse. It’s computerised to make stitch selections and customisation easy. It has 200 built-in stitches, 9 of those being automatic 1-step buttonholes, and includes 5 different sets of alphabets! With so many options, you’ll be able to create amazing projects, customised perfectly to any specifications. You’ll also have access to features you’ll find on any professional machine such as a large thread stand, knee lift and adjustable presser foot pressure. It also has a built-in needle threader, automatic thread cutter, speed slider, and a start/stop button all easily located on the front of the machine.
And when we say it’s a workhorse, we mean it! As a professional machine, we know that you expect this machine to run fast. But did you know that it can stitch up to 1200spm?! That's this fastest model amongst all Janome sewing machines.
It is the fastest machine that uses a drop-in bobbin. Drop-in bobbins make upkeep on sewing machines much easier as you’re able to see into the machine with proper lighting when dusting. You can also see when the bobbin is running out!
The 6700P comes with three needle plates- standard, straight stitch, and professional (HP) - all are easy to change with one step. There’s no need to get the screwdriver out to change any of the needle plates with a quick-release lever to remove and they snap into place, and they stay in place no matter how fast you work!
“Ok, but why do I need three different stitch plates? What’s the difference?”
It sounds excessive, we know. Just another piece of the machine that you have to keep track of, right? Well, it’s worth keeping track of your needle plates as they really make sewing a joy when you use them correctly.
The standard needle plate is the same as what you’d find on any sewing machine that allows for a zig-zag stitch. The hole in which the needle moves through to pierce the fabric and meet the bobbin thread is long and skinny, allowing for the many different needle positions. This is the needle plate you’ll most likely use most of the time.
The straight stitch needle plate has a much smaller, perfectly circular hole next to two other small oval holes so that you can move the needle position. This is important and helpful as the smaller holes does not allow for fabric to get stuck in the machine. We’re sure you’ve run into that issue; a stray corner of fabric somehow makes its way into that extra wide hole of the standard plate and creates a nest around the bobbin case. But with a straight stitch only needle plate, this won’t happen! There is no room for fabric to sneak its way underneath!
So, what more could we want from a professional (HP) needle plate if the straight stitch plate is so great? Even less space for fabric to get caught! The HP needle plate has one single, perfectly circular hole for the needle to pass through. With this plate, you can sew as fast as the machine will allow you without being afraid of anything getting caught and you can sew right from the very edge of the fabric. Th HP plate used with the HP foot, makes turning corners easy and helps you achieve a perfect 1/4 inch, once you use them, you’ll never want to go back!
This machine also offers great lighting! We know it can sometimes be difficult to get the right lighting while sewing. Sometimes you need to set up extra lamps that can take away from your sewing space. Luckily, the 6700P comes with 6 LED lights built-in to the machine. These lights are in three positions, giving you an optimal lighting situation. No more squinting at your work!
On top of the great lighting, you’ll have a huge workspace! This machine features 254mm (10 inches) to the right of the needle. It really is a sewers dream machine with so much space to work on any size project. Not to mention that the workspace is a seamless flatbed work area; you won’t get your fabric snagged or misaligned while you work. You’ll also get extra wide extension table included! There will be plenty of space to work!
