Bernina L890 Overlocker & Coverstitch Machine Review

In fact, Overlock and Coverstitch machines are becoming increasingly popular. And the Bernina L890 Overlocker & Coverstitch is one of our favourite choices of an overlocker and coverstitch combination machine! This model is the most capable of the entire Bernina overlockers range.

Having a machine that does the job of two different machines is a great way to not only save money by only purchasing one machine, but you’re saving space in your sewing room, too. With only one machine that does the job of two, you’re only taking up the space of one machine.

This overlocker and coverstitch combination machine is great for all kinds of fabrics, no matter what kind of project you’re working on, too. It can handle the thinnest fabrics from silk and chiffon to thick fabrics such as denim and canvas. That means you’ll be able to create clothes such as dresses and shirts to home décor items like curtains or furniture covers that look professional.

The screen on this machine is not something you’d find on any other overlockers or coverstitch machines. This screen is a touchscreen that is presented in full colour. It has two different modes you can work in, too. You’ll have the Guided Mode for beginners and anyone that needs a refresher when sitting down to work, and you’ll have access to expert mode, which is perfect for well-versed sewists that don’t need an extra guiding hand.

One of our favourite features of this machine is that it’s very easy to thread! Not only does it have colour-coded tension dials, but it also has air threading capabilities! We love being able to simply press a button and WOOSH the loopers are threaded magically. There’s no need to fight with the loopers and fear getting cut by the knife.

You’ll love the extra-large workspace this machine offers. It has almost 6 inches of workable space, which is not usual when it comes to overlockers. And it comes with an extension table! Having an extension table is helpful when piecing quilt tops to give you extra space to work and store more pieces, as well as helps support heavy and large amounts of fabric so that it doesn’t pull away from the needle as you work. You’ll also have a bright LED light to help you see your project very well.

The Bernina L890 machine also comes equipped with the Bernina Hands-free system. That means that it comes with a knee lift that you can use to raise and lower the presser foot without using your hands. That way you can keep your hands on the project when you need to!
