Bernina L460 Overlocker Review

Bernina overlockers are built with the user in mind. They tend to lean more towards the luxury end of the spectrum when it comes to sewing machine brands, but anyone can easily use them. First and foremost, it’s easy to thread! By using up to 4 threads on the Bernina L460, you’ll have 16 stitch variations. And you’ll be able to customise the stitch widths between 3 and 9mm as well as the stitch lengths between 0.8 to 4mm. That’s including a rolled hem and other decorative edges that really add a sense of flair to any finished edge on curtains, tablecloths, and more! Delicate fabrics do best with rolled hems and decorative edges, so if you’re working with more organza and satin than anything else, you want to make sure your overlocker is capable of a rolled hem!

If you are working with delicate fabrics, you’ll love that this Bernina overlocker is equipped with Micro Thread Control! MTC helps you to avoid puckering on finer fabrics by controlling the thread on, you guessed it, a microscopic level. That means that it controls minor changes that make a large impact on how your fabric lays as you sew.

You’ll also have Exact Speed Control with the L460 overlocker. You can sew up to 1500 stitches per minute, but you can certainly slow that down with your foot control. As you become more confident on this overlocker machine, you’ll be able to speed it up as you want to.

One extra special aspect of this overlocker is that it comes with a knee lift! A knee lift is a hands free system that allows you to lift and lower the presser foot by nudging the lever that hangs below the table with you knee. This way, if you’re working on something with a lot of layers or needs special attention, you can make sure to keep your hands on the fabric in order to manipulate it just so.
