Husqvarna Opal 670 Product Review
Since 1872, Husqvarna Viking has combined Swedish engineering with innovative sewing technology. The Husqvarna Opal 670 carries that heritage into a modern, fully computerised sewing and quilting machine designed for sewers who value advanced automation, effortless operation and precision results. With intelligent automated features that streamline every stage of sewing, the Opal 670 delivers a smooth sewing experience with beautifully accurate stitching across a wide variety of projects including quilting, garment production and home furnishings.
Built-in assistance includes the SEWING ADVISOR® which sets stitch, length, width and tension once you tell it your fabric and technique. The automatic thread cutter trims top and bobbin threads in one press while the bobbin thread sensor detects when it's running low. The Electronic Self-Adjusting Thread Tension sets the best tension automatically for all your sewing techniques and fabrics. Finally, the bright touchscreen interface displays settings, recommended feet and needle position.
There are 200 built-in stitches across utility, decorative and quilting categories, plus 4 sewing fonts for personalising and labelling work. The 7mm maximum stitch width gives you room for confident decorative work, mirror stitch lets you flip patterns side to side, and stitch memory means you can save custom combinations to the "My Stitches" menu for quick recall later.
The 8-inch (200mm) sewing surface to the right of the needle gives you room for larger and bulky projects like large scale quilts and curtains. The built-in needle threader speeds up setup and start/stop, needle up/down and a speed control slider give you hands-free options when working without the foot pedal.

Materials and Build Quality
The Opal 670 is part of Husqvarna Viking's Swedish-engineered range, drawing on more than 150 years of sewing machine manufacturing. Husqvarna Viking has built a reputation for combining premium Scandinavian engineering with modern sewing innovation. Loyal customers are drawn to the brand's reliability, intuitive technology and beautifully smooth stitch quality.
The top-loading bobbin sits directly under a clear cover, so you can see thread levels at a glance and drop a fresh bobbin in without removing the bed plate. This system reduces the tangles that come with front-loading designs and keeps bobbin changes quick. The bobbin thread sensor monitors levels in real time and signals when thread is about to run out.
Husqvarna's Electronic Self-Adjusting Thread Tension sets the best tension automatically for the stitch and fabric you've selected, and recalculates as you change techniques. The system is designed to handle delicate fabrics through to thicker layers without manual dial adjustments, while still allowing override for specialty threads or fabrics that need a custom setting.
The difference is in the details
With its wealth of intelligent automated features, the Husqvarna Viking Opal 670 is designed to streamline your sewing with greater speed, precision and efficiency. You'll spend less time making manual adjustments for tension and stitch selection and more time creating.
Tension stays balanced across utility, decorative and quilting work without stopping to fine-tune dial settings, which means consistent stitch quality across a wide range of fabrics including sheer materials, garment leather and silk.
Husqvarna sewing machines are designed to be intuitive. The SEWING ADVISOR instantly sets the machine for you selecting the best stitch, stitch width, stitch length and sewing speed. It also provides recommendations for other settings including setting the best thread tension. The bobbin thread sensor on the stops sewing and alerts you when the bobbin thread is about to run out.
Husqvarna Opal 670: A Machine for Every Maker
And every project
Dressmaking and Garment Construction
Garment sewers working with tricky fabrics will appreciate the automatic thread tension and sensor foot pressure to help achieve smooth, even stitching across delicate silks, stretch knits and layered fabrics. The generous stitch selection (including utility, quilt, satin, heirloom and decorative stitches) and one-step buttonholes deliver professional-looking finishes on garments.
The exclusive SEWING ADVISOR® instantly recommends the ideal settings for your chosen fabric and technique, helping you achieve beautifully polished results with greater ease and confidence.
Passionate Quilters
With quilting stitches built in alongside utility and decorative options, the Opal 670 is a great choice for sewers passionate about quilting. The generous machine design offers plenty of sewing and fabric space. The open area from the side of the machine to the needle measures nearly 8" (200 mm). Perfect for quilts and other large sewing projects. The electronic piercing power ensures the machine can handle quilt sandwiches and thick layers delivering neat and precise stitch details.
Personalised and Decorative Work
200 stitches, 4 sewing fonts and stitch memory let you label quilts, monogram bags and combine decorative patterns into the "My Stitches" menu for repeat use. Mirror stitch flips patterns side to side, opening up borders and decorative panels without re-selecting the design each time.

Exclusive SEWING ADVISOR®
Select your fabric and technique on the touchscreen and the SEWING ADVISOR® sets stitch type, length, width, tension and recommended presser foot, taking the guesswork out of setup before you start sewing.
Touchscreen Interface and My Stitches Menu
The touchscreen shows your active settings, recommended foot and needle position on screen. Save custom stitch and letter combinations to the "My Stitches" menu for instant recall on future projects.
Perfectly Balanced Buttonholes
The Sensor One-Step Buttonhole Foot measures button size and sews matched buttonholes from start to finish. Seven buttonhole styles cover shirts, jackets, thicker fabrics and reinforced tailoring without manual length setting.
29 Needle Positions and Mirror Stitch
Twenty-nine straight-stitch needle positions support precise topstitching, edge stitching and quilting in the ditch. Mirror stitch flips decorative patterns side to side or end to end without reselecting each design.
Automatic Thread Cutter and Bobbin Sensor
One press cuts top and bobbin threads cleanly and pulls tails to the underside of the fabric. The bobbin thread sensor signals before thread runs out, preventing interrupted seams mid-project.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the SEWING ADVISOR® do?
The SEWING ADVISOR® takes the trial-and-error out of setup. You select your fabric type and the technique you're using, and the machine sets the recommended stitch, length, width, tension and presser foot for you. You can override any setting if you want to, but for most projects it gets you sewing accurately straight away.
Who is the Opal 670 best suited to?
The Opal 670 suits intermediate sewers who want guided, computerised features. The touchscreen and SEWING ADVISOR® take the guesswork out of stitch selection, and the automatic thread cutter, built-in needle threader and start/stop button speed up day-to-day sewing. It has the stitch range and workspace to support growing skills over time.
Can the Opal 670 handle quilting?
The 8-inch sewing surface gives quilts room to move, drop feed dogs let you switch to free-motion work, and the built-in quilting stitches cover piecing and finishing. It is a sewing machine first and a quilting-capable machine second, so quilters working on very large projects may want a wider workspace, but for most quilting projects it is well-suited.
How many buttonholes can it sew?
The Opal 670 has 7 buttonhole styles including a one-step buttonhole sewn with the Sensor One-Step Buttonhole Foot. The foot measures the size of your button and sews matched buttonholes automatically, so the buttonholes on a shirt or jacket all come out the same length without manual adjustment.
Does the machine save custom stitch combinations?
Yes. The "My Stitches" menu lets you save your own stitch and letter combinations and recall them on future projects, so a decorative border or a labelled quilt block doesn't need to be rebuilt each time you sew it.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
