bernette Funlock b44 Product Review and Demonstration
The bernette Funlock b44 is a great choice for sewers who want a professional finish to their work without a steep learning curve. Whether you're working on garments, home décor, or creative crafts, this powerful model delivers clean seams, durable edges and decorative stitches with ease.
With a colour-coded threading system and lay-in thread paths, the Bernette Funlock B44 simplifies setup, making it accessible for beginners and professionals alike. A separate lower looper mechanism and a handheld needle inserter handle the fiddliest steps.
The machine runs at up to 1,300 stitches per minute, which means you can finish seams quickly once you are confident. Its 15 stitch options span 2, 3 and 4-thread configurations, so you can move from narrow rolled hems on lightweight fabric to durable 4-thread seams for stretch and woven garments. Seam widths adjust from 3.0 to 7.0mm and stitch lengths from 1 to 4.0mm for control across different projects.
The adjustable differential feed is the feature quilters and dressmakers will value most. Set between 0.6 and 2, it keeps knitted fabrics smooth and prevents puckering on fine fabrics, and can also create deliberate ruffles for decorative work. A cut-offs bin catches trimmings to keep your workspace tidy, and the most-used accessories store inside the looper cover so they are always to hand.
Built with a lightweight frame and bernette Swiss design quality, the b44 suits sewers stepping into overlocking as well as those wanting a dependable second machine.

Frequently Asked Questions About the bernette Funlock b44
Let us help with the answers.
Is the bernette Funlock b44 good for beginners?
Yes. The colour-coded, lay-in threading and lower looper threading mechanism make setup far simpler than on many overlockers, which means beginners can get neat, professional seams from their very first project.
What can an overlocker do that a sewing machine cannot?
An overlocker trims, sews and finishes a seam edge in one pass, giving stretchy, durable seams and neatly enclosed edges. It works alongside a regular sewing machine rather than replacing it.
Can the bernette b44 sew stretchy knit fabrics?
Yes. Its adjustable differential feed handles stretch fabrics like jersey, feeding them evenly so seams stay flat and free of waviness.
How many threads does the bernette b44 use?
It works with 2, 3 and 4 thread configurations across 15 stitch options, so you can create everything from narrow rolled hems to durable 4-thread seams for everyday garment construction.
What warranty comes with this machine?
The bernette b44 includes a 2-year bernette-backed parts and labour guarantee. Our team also provides nationwide service support if you ever need help.
Does the bernette b44 come with a waste collector?
Yes. It comes with a waste collector that catches offcuts as you sew, so you can keep working without pausing to tidy up.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
