Janome AT2000D Overlocker Review

Ok, we have a very special overlocker to tell you about today, so definitely pay attention to this blog.

This overlocker machine is one you’re going to want to take a look at if you’re in the market for one. If you have any trouble threading an overlocker, be it you have difficulty with your hands shaking or you just find it frustrating to thread the bottom loopers- because let’s face it, it can be a frustrating job-, this machine will be one of your top contenders. It is the easiest model to thread from the Janome overlockers range.

If you’re a dressmaker, you will want to consider purchasing the Janome AT2000D Air Threader Professional Overlocker. It is exactly as it sounds. This overlocker machine uses air to thread part of the machine for you! No more will you need to navigate the bottom loopers with shaky tweezers, pinched fingers, or strained eyes in order to thread the machine. It basically threads itself!

You’re probably wondering

“How does a machine thread itself?!”

That was our first question, too, and we needed to see it in action right away!

You’ll begin by threading the machine as usual using the colour coded lay-in tension dials. When you get to the point where you’re going to thread the loopers, you instead put the threads into two small holes that are also colour coded depending on which looper it's going to thread. Once you're all set, press the button and WHOOSH! Your loopers are threaded!

It's magic! It’s innovative engineering! And that’s one of the many reasons to love Janome machines. No more will your fingers ache from pinching tweezers and thread through hard to reach loopers and fear that you might nick yourself on the overlocker’s blades. The fact that this machine threads its loopers on its own takes out a lot of the overwhelming feelings you might have about overlockers.

This machine can work with as few or as many threads as you need it to. It can sew with 2, 3, and 4 threads altogether, really giving you a good variety of stitches and options to work with.

Speaking of stitches, you’ll find that you have 9 stitch variations to choose from. On top of that, you can easily customise them to suit whatever project you’re working on. You can change the width to be anywhere from 2mm to 5.7mm and the length of each stitch to be anywhere from 1mm to 5mm. You’ll be able to make sure your stitches are just right for whatever type of fabric you’re sewing on and the type of garment you’re creating.

The AT2000D Overlocker also allows for a rolled hem. Rolled hems are perfect for garments made of delicate fabrics such as satin or organza. It keeps them from fraying but also from snagging, but it also allows for a lovely drape of the fabric. It’s a great feature to have in any overlocker.

Of course, when you choose to sew a rolled hem, you’ll want to be able to retract the knife so that the machine doesn’t cut away the fabric for this particular type of stitch, among a couple of others. Luckily it has a retractable upper knife that you can move out of the way very easily and without fear.

Overlockers are known to be fast machines. This one in particular clocks in at 1,500 stitches per minute. While that may seem really fast for a machine that actually cuts away the fabric as it sews (most sewing machines don’t even sew at that speed unless they’re straight stitch and professional sewing machines), this is a good thing for an overlocker. You can control the speed with your foot pedal if you need to go slower, but once you get the hang of the machine, you’ll appreciate being able to sew 1,500 stitches per minute!

It’s important to have a well-lit working space. That’s why the Janome AT2000D has an LED light to shed some light on your work. You don’t want to be squinting at your project, especially when there’s a knife involved, right?
