What is a Quillow? 

A Quillow is a quilt with a built‑in pocket. When the quilt is folded up, it tucks into that pocket and transforms into a cushion. 

About This Block of the Month

This Quillow will be made as a Block of the Month, so you can take it step by step and enjoy the process without feeling rushed. It's suitable for a confident beginner with some basic quilting experience. Each month Jeanette will guide you through the next stage of the quilt, building towards the finished quillow. This Quillow has been designed by Jeanette exclusively for us, making it a truly special project you won’t find anywhere else. 

Everything you need will be added to this blog post and our YouTube channel. 

Fabric Requirements

To make the quillow, you will need:

• 8 Fat Quarters - 18" x 22" (we recommend 4 colours with 2 Fat Quarters per colour) 
• 1.5 metres fabric for background & border 1
• 1.5 metres fabric for border 2 & binding fabric
• 3 metres of backing fabric (vertical seam)
• Wadding measuring at least 52 x 64 inches 

Your finished quillow will measure 48" x 60"

Jeanette will be sewing along using Acorn Hollow. To make choosing your fabrics easier, we’ve put together some ready made bundles for your quilt top. These bundles have been designed to work perfectly for this project, taking the guesswork out of colour and contrast. 

You are more than welcome to create your own fabric selection or use your stash. Jeanette used our curated Acorn Hollow fat quarter bundle for this project. If you are using alternative fabrics, the pick 8 fat quarters, in 4 colourways with differing patterns or a light/dark variants to create contrast. 

Notions:

• Sewing machine 
• Rotary cutter
• Cutting mat
• Ruler
• 12.5" square ruler (for trimming and squaring up)
• Small square ruler - at least 4.5" (for trimming and squaring up)
• Good quality thread for piecing
• Iron 
• Pressing mat or ironing board
• Scissors or thread snips
