Janome Atelier 9 Sew & Embroidery Machine Review
If you’re in the market for a sewing machine and an embroidery machine, we’d love to point you in the direction of the Janome Atelier 9. This sewing and embroidery combination machine is the top machine of the Atelier Series. It has all of the features of the Atelier 7, plus embroidery!
We know you’re probably asking...
“Why would I want two machines in one?”
Well, it’s a space saver for sure! You have the operations of two machines but only one machine footprint in your sewing studio. If you have limited space in your sewing area, you won’t have to pack up and put away one machine to get out the other, too. You’ll also be saving money by only purchasing one machine that can do both functions. Janome embroidery machines usually costs about the same as a sewing machine, but for the price of one, you’re getting both functions!
The Atelier 9 comes with 300 stitches programmed in, including 11 automatic 1-step buttonholes and a few different fonts to easily make all of your projects perfectly customised! You can easily change your stitch length and get up to 9mm in stitch width if need be.
Just like the Atelier 7, the Atelier 9 comes with Janome’s AcuFeed Flex function!
What is AcuFeed?
Well, it’s basically a built-in walking foot function that’s more accurate than a traditional walking foot. Since it’s built into the machine, it’s in better sync with the feed dogs than a traditional walking foot is, so it feeds much more evenly. It can handle fabrics from gauze to thickly layered denim or leather without straining the feeding system. The AcuFeed Flex system also allows for more than just one type of foot to work as a walking foot. You’ll get a zipper foot, an open toe foot, and more that can use the AcuFeed Flex system!
You’ll also be able to use a knee lift with this machine! We love the ability to lift the presser foot hands-free while sewing or quilting. It makes projects that require both hands on the fabric so much easier!
The Atelier 9 also has a great amount of workspace! To the right of the needle you’ll find 8.3 inches of well-lit workspace. You can fit a lot of fabric in that amount of space, if need be!

The Atelier 9 comes with 250 embroidery designs already installed into the machine! It comes with 3 different sized hoops, too, making it possible to embroider anything of any size, up to 170mm by 200mm.
