Janome Sewist 780 DC Sewing Machine Review

Let’s talk about another fantastic Janome sewing machine today.

The Janome Sewist 780DC Sewing Machine is a sturdy, well-built sewing machine that you’ll be able to afford on a budget without having to give up any amenities. It still manages to feature a few luxury aspects such as the automatic thread cutter!

If your looking at sewing machines that do more than just utility stitches, you want to make sure that you’re getting a computerised sewing machine. The Janome Sewist 780DC is computerised, but not over the top with too many features this machine is the perfect balance of necessity with a few extras that you’re bound to love!

The Janome Sewist 780DC is programmed with 80 stitches. That includes 3 different one-step buttonholes, so they’re very easy to sew. And you’ll be able to customise them all by width and length! You’ll have a maximum of 7mm for your stitch width and a maximum of 5mm for length and you’ll be able to use an automatic locking stitch at the beginning and end of all of your seams! Locking stitches are great for when you don’t want to use the reverse to make sure your seams are tightly finished. When piecing the top of a quilt, using the reverse stitch too much will make your corners and seams a bit bulky and difficult to sew over or even quilt. The locking stitch, however, will lock your seams without the bulk!

Have you ever used a machine that uses top-loading bobbins? If not, you’re missing out! Top-loading bobbins are great because they are loaded in a way that helps you avoid jams and thread nesting. They’re also easier to clean out, so if you do have any issues with a bobbin, you’ll be able to troubleshoot on your own. Cleaning your machine helps to keep the timing correct and doing so will keep Janome sewing machines running happily for years to come!

There’s plenty of space to work on this sewing machine, too! You’ll have 6 inches of workspace to the right of the needle so that you can sew thick quilts with ease and work your garments through the machine easily. You won’t have to fight to work on thick skirts or to make sure that your quilt fits in the throat space. It’s easy to make sure everything fits through the machine! Speaking of the space, you’ll love being able to convert the flatbed into a free arm very easily and quickly so that you can sew your cuffs and hems without strife.

You’ll appreciate the Superior Feed System (SFS) that you can easily feed your fabrics through the machine. It’s a 7 Piece Feed Dog that you can drop for free motion quilting with the simple switch of a lever on the back of the machine. If you’re a quilter, we highly recommend getting a machine like this that will allow you to try out free motion quilting- once you get the hang of it, you’ll want to quilt all of your projects this way.

It's a speedy machine for its calibre, that’s for sure. At 820 stitches per minute, you’ll be able to sew all of your projects as quickly as you need to! And with the speed control slider you’ll be able to slow it down as you need to.

We’re sure that you’ll appreciate the backlit LCD Screen on the front of the machine. It’s bright enough that you won’t have to squint to see, but it doesn’t take up too much space on the machine itself. You’ll be able to see what presser foot you should be using, what the original settings for the stitch you’ve chosen are, and what settings you change it to if you choose to customise your stitches.
