Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
BERNINA 540 Product Review & Demonstration
The BERNINA 540 is a sewing and quilting machine that brings Swiss engineering to a wide range of everyday projects. It boasts a stitch library that covers everything from utility seaming to detailed decorative work. There are 1,048 stitch patterns including 300 decorative stitches, 44 quilting stitches, 31 cross-stitch programmes and 5 alphabets. The 4.3-inch colour touchscreen makes navigation straightforward and the multi-function knobs on the front of the machine give you quick, tactile control over stitch length, width and needle position without going into menus.
The BERNINA Hook system sits at the heart of the 540's stitch performance, keeping stitches consistent and precise at up to 1,000 stitches per minute. The front-loading jumbo bobbin holds 70% more thread than a standard bobbin and is conveniently inserted from the front so no need to remove your project. The upper thread indicator gives you advance notice before it runs out for convenience.
Adaptive Thread Tension handles tension automatically for clean results on both sides without manual adjustment. Adjustable presser foot pressure allows you to fine-tune for different fabric weights, which is particularly useful when moving between lightweight and heavier materials. The Free Hand System knee lifter is included, so you can raise and lower the presser foot without lifting your hands from the fabric, helpful when pivoting on patchwork or appliqué work.
The 8.5-inch workspace to the right of the needle gives you room for larger quilts and home furnishing projects, and the included slide-on extension table adds further support around the needle area. The 540 is also BSR-enabled (straight stitch and zigzag), so you can add the BERNINA Stitch Regulator when you're ready to tackle free-motion quilting. An optional Embroidery Module M is available separately. With the optional Maxi Hoop, maximum embroidery area is 15.7" × 5.9" (400 × 150 mm).
The BERNINA 540 also comes with a good variety of accessories and presser feet as standard. As with all BERNINA feet, they are full-shank metal. Also included is a well-designed accessory box that displays the contents clearly. For convenience, it magnetically attaches to the machine.
