PFAFF Ambition 610 Product Review
The PFAFF Ambition 610 is a computerised sewing and quilting machine designed to make your sewing smoother and more precise. The combination of technology, versatility and thoughtful features ensures you can tackle any project. Whether you're a passionate hobby sewer or an experienced dressmaker or quilter, this stylish machine stands out from the crowd.
The legendary Original IDT™ System from PFAFF acts as a built-in walking foot precisely feeding all types of fabric from the top and bottom for perfect stitching every time. It's a game changer for sewers working with knit fabrics, quilts or dressmakers working with slippery materials like viscose, chiffon, silk or lace.
There are 110 built-in stitches covering utility and decorative work, each up to 7mm wide with adjustable stitch length and width to fine-tune. A mirror function and stitch elongation extend what those stitches can do so a single decorative pattern can be reshaped or reversed for borders and detailing.
There are six one-step buttonhole styles and 29 needle positions - perfect for topstitching, edge stitching, understitching, stitching-in-the-ditch or quilting. For makers who enjoy free-motion sewing, simply drop the feed teeth for free-motion quilting, thread painting or darning. Needle up/down makes pivoting, appliqué and quilting easier by stopping the needle exactly where you need it.
A 200mm (almost 8") sewing space to the right of the needle gives room for larger projects, quilts and bulky fabrics. The extra presser foot lift raises the presser foot to its highest position so that thick fabrics can be placed easily underneath it. The start/stop button lets you sew without the foot control while the Immediate Tie-Off function secures the start and end of a seam with a few locking stitches and stops automatically for a neat finish. You can also control your sewing pace with the adjustable speed slider for maximum precision.
A top-loading bobbin sits under a clear cover. There is no need to rethread when winding your bobbins either as this is done directly from the needle. Winding stops automatically when your bobbin is full.
The Ambition 610 comes with a hard cover and six different presser feet for all your basic needs with more feet available as your sewing ambitions grow.

Materials and Build Quality
The legendary Original IDT™ System from PFAFF acts as a built-in walking foot precisely feeding all types of fabric from the top and bottom for perfect stitching every time. It works with a lever behind the presser foot bar engaging a second set of feed teeth. It's a game changer for sewers working with knit fabrics, quilts or dressmakers working with slippery materials like viscose, chiffon, silk or lace.
A top-loading bobbin drops in under a clear cover, so the thread supply stays visible while you sew. There is no need to rethread when winding your bobbins directly from the needle. Winding stops automatically when your bobbin is full. The built-in needle threader guides thread through the needle eye without the close work usually involved, which reduces eye strain on fine needles and dark thread. Together these systems keep setup straightforward and interruptions short on longer sewing sessions.
PFAFF has been manufacturing precision-engineered sewing machines for 160 years. Recognised for clean and consistent stitches, especially on tricky fabrics like knits or multiple layers, they offer an elevated sewing experience. The jam-proof rotary hook ensures no threads get caught in the bobbin area for fuss-free sewing every time.
The Difference is in the Details
Considered features on the Ambition 610 remove small friction points for an optimal and seamless sewing experience. Sew at up to 800 stitches per minute with a speed slider to adjust the speed for full control. The start/stop button lets you sew without the foot control while the needle up/down stops the needle exactly where you want it which is handy for applique work, tricky corners and detailed topstitching. The automatic tie-off function secures the start and end of a seam so threads stay neat.
PFAFF machines are engineered for lasting performance, with a robust internal design that maintains stitch precision even with regular use. With proper care and servicing, you can rely on consistent, high-quality results for years to come. PFAFF sewing machines come with a 5-year parts and 2-year labour warranty. The Sewing Studio is an authorised service centre for all PFAFF machines.
PFAFF sewing machines are designed for user comfort combining durable technology with artful operation. The bright LCD screen displays your chosen stitch and sewing settings while the Info Button displays helpful tips and recommendations when needed. Optimized bright lights illuminate the entire work area with fewer shadows. Choose from 13 languages in the Settings menu to make sure your PFAFF® Ambition 610 sewing machine speaks the same language you do.
PFAFF's printed manual covers each stitch and function in detail, so you can work through the machine's full feature set at your own pace.

And every project
Dressmaking and Garment Sewing
The Ambition 610 is top-rated for dressmaking, clothing repairs, garment construction, cosplay projects and everything in between. Reliable fabric feeding eliminates fabric shifting no matter what fabric you've selected with perfect stitch quality on everything from garment leather, viscose, lace and silk to denim, cotton and linen.
The 29 needle positions make accurate topstitching and edge work straightforward, six one-step buttonholes finish garments to a consistent standard and the twin needle program handles hems and decorative detailing with confidence. For sewing tubular items like sleeves, trouser legs and cuffs, simply slide off the accessory tray and use the free arm.
Quilting and Patchwork
Quilters will appreciate the generous 200mm sewing space. You can set the needle to stop up or down in the fabric for pivoting, appliqué and more. Simply drop the feed teeth for free-motion quilting, thread painting or darning.
Everyday and Creative Sewing
The Ambition 610 has everyday sewing covered. You can easily mend seams and hems, create bespoke home furnishings and upcycle denim into a unique garment with the 110 stitches giving plenty of scope for both practical and decorative work. Mirror and elongation functions reshape decorative stitches for borders and detailing so a single pattern can be adapted to suit the project in hand.
Inside the PFAFF Ambition 610
The Original IDT™ System
PFAFF's Integrated Dual Feed moves fabric from above and below at the same rate, holding layers together for even seams on fine, slippery and bulky fabrics where single feeding can cause shifting.
Stitch Library and Width
110 built-in utility and decorative stitches, each up to 7mm wide, with adjustable length and width plus mirror and elongation functions to reshape decorative patterns for borders and detailing.
Needle Positioning System
29 adjustable needle positions place the needle precisely across the fabric for topstitching, edge work, appliqué and quilting, with needle up/down setting the stop position for accurate pivoting.
Buttonhole and Twin Needle Programs
Six one-step buttonhole styles are sewn to a consistent length automatically, while the twin needle program adjusts stitch width for twin-needle sewing and previews the stitch on the screen.
Top-Loading Bobbin System
The top-loading bobbin drops in under a clear cover that keeps the thread supply visible while you sew, making it quick to check the remaining thread and reload between seams.

Frequently Asked Questions
Let us help with the answers.
What does the IDT™ System do?
The Integrated Dual Feed moves fabric from both the top and the bottom at the same rate, rather than relying only on the lower feed dogs. This keeps layers aligned and stops the top fabric creeping forward, which is particularly useful on fine, slippery or layered fabrics. It is built into the machine so it is ready to use without fitting a separate walking foot.
Is the Ambition 610 Suitable for a Confident Beginner?
Yes. It is an intermediate machine, but its controls are straightforward enough for a confident beginner ready to progress. The speed slider lets you sew slowly while you build confidence, and the start/stop button means you can sew without the foot control. The included manual and stitch chart help you get familiar with the features at your own pace.
Can it handle quilting and thicker fabrics?
It manages both well. The 200mm sewing space gives larger projects room to move, dual feeding keeps multiple layers travelling evenly, and adjustable presser foot pressure adapts to heavier weights. Needle up/down and drop feed dogs make pivoting and free-motion work easier for quilters.
Does it have an automatic thread cutter?
No. The Ambition 610 has a manual thread cutter built into the machine for trimming threads as you work, rather than an automatic cut at the end of a seam. The automatic tie-off function does secure the start and end of a seam for you.
Does it come with everything I need to start sewing?
Yes. The machine ships with six presser feet, five bobbins, a selection of needles, a hard cover for protection and a full set of tools including a seam ripper, edge guide and multi-purpose tool. You can start sewing straight out of the box.
Our standard width fabric can be cut as a Fat Quarter, measuring 50cm x 1/2 the width of the bolt. Above is an example of how your fabric will be received, depending on the quantity ordered.
We also offer a sample service, where you can order 1 single fat quarter of any standard width fabric, to have at home and compare colours. When you are finished, you can send them back to us for a refund (feel free to contact us for more information on this service).
Our fabric can be cut as a Long Quarter, measuring a minimum of 25cm x width of bolt. We will supply the fabric as a continuous length (eg; if you bought 1.25m it will be sent as one piece of fabric).
