Janome Atelier 7 Sewing Machine Review

Are you looking for a well-rounded powerhouse of a machine?

The Janome Atelier 7 Sewing Machine is one you will certainly want to sit down and sew at no matter what kind of project you’re working on. Quilters and dressmakers alike will find features to fit their sewing styles and needs in this sewing machine, and then some.

As with the rest of the Atelier series from Janome, this machine has a sleek-looking plastic exterior with lovely blue accents, and an all-metal interior that runs quiet and smooth. It’s one of the quietest machines on the market, making your sewing experience more enjoyable. Turn on a podcast or some music without having to turn the volume up all the way while sewing.

The Atelier 7 sewing machine features a built-in advanced needle threader, making it super easy to thread this sewing machine. No need for magnifying glasses, this threader is easy to see and easy to operate, even for those with shaky hands.

Janome Atelier 7

Need to change the needle plate or remove it for cleaning? It’s a breeze with the one-step needle plate. No longer will you need to get out the screwdriver and fear losing the tiny screws that hold your needle plate in place. Simply remove the accessory tray to reveal the free arm and you’ll find the needle plate release lever. Press that and the plate will come loose without a fuss! You can replace the plate by snapping it in place and then you’re good to sew once again!

You won’t be disappointed by the working space the Atelier 7 provides. To the right of the needle, you’ll find 210mm of working space! Work on your biggest projects with this machine, you will have the room to move your fabric through the machine with ease.

The Atelier 7 also features a computerised presser foot. With this feature, you can program the machine to lift the presser foot to lift while leaving the needle in the down position, making turning a corner much more precise!

You’ll also find buttons for the start/stop feature, automatic thread cutter, and locking stick right in front of you, clearly marked for ease of use. In the same area you’ll find the speed slider- this machine can sew up to 1,000 SPM (stitches per minute)!- as well as the needle up/down and the presser foot up/down buttons. With everything computerised, its easy to navigate.

But what does the Atelier 7 have that the 3 and 6 don’t have?

Atelier 7 Touchscreen

For one, the Atelier 7 has a touch screen display with built-in applications that make certain parts of sewing so much easier!

The application for chain piecing truly makes piecing many of the same size pieces a breeze by taking the guess work out of how long to hold your foot on the pedal. You can utilize the start/stop button here. The application measures how many stitches it takes to sew together two pieces of fabric and recreates that amount each time you start sewing again and then lifts the presser foot in order for you to insert the next set of pieces of the same size. It also moves the needle over automatically into position to work perfectly with the included 1/4inch foot.

Another difference that makes the Atelier 7 stand out against its little sisters is Janome’s patented AcuFeed technology.

What is AcuFeed?

Acufeed is a built-in walking foot system that has more precision than a regular walking foot. While a normal walking foot moves only with the needle bar, the AcuFeed technology moves with the feed dogs as the machine sews. It’s meant to keep layers of fabric together with amazing precision. You won’t have to worry about your layers bunching up when using AcuFeed technology. Accessories to use the AcuFeed system more are available from open-toe feet to a 1/4inch foot for precise piecing!

Now, let’s talk about the stitch composer software that is included with the Atelier 7. This software allows you to create your own stitches and patterns that can be loaded onto the Atelier 7 via a USB drive. If you’re looking for more creative freedom, this software is a must have.

Atelier 7

All in all, the Atelier 7 is an amazing machine for its price. It has everything a sewist could want for, including the ability to really be creative and think outside the typical limitations other sewing machines have. It’s easy to use by any level sewist, from beginners to professionals, and highly recommended to everyone looking for an amazing machine for an amazing price.
