11 Quilting Supplies You Must Have

It can sometimes be hard knowing where to start when getting into Quilting. Katrina gave us a short list of 11 Must Have's to start your quilting journey.

1. Fabric Pack

Buying Pre Cut fabric, such as Fat Quarter Packs is an easy way to get started.

2. Neutral coloured Thread

One of the first colours you should buy is a neutral coloured thread - this is because it will blend with any colour. Katrina recommends Gutermann thread.

3. Pins

Flat headed pins are perfect for patchwork and quilting.

4. Seam Ripper / Un Picker

None of us are perfect at quilting/patchwork to begin with - so an un picker is a must.

5. Snips

These are great at snipping any loose thread and are less fiddly than scissors.

6. Rotary Cutter

Buy the best quality you can afford and it will last you for ages.

7. Cutting Mat

The bigger the better, but to begin with buy the biggest you can afford and it will still help a lot.

8. Quilting Ruler

This 6.5" x 24" ruler is long enough to work with any size fabric.

9. Binding Clips

Binding clips are perfect at holding your fabric together and means you dont always need to use pins!

10. Wool Pressing Mat

A wool pressing mat differs to the rest of them, as the wool allows heat to bounce back, heating the fabric from both sides.

11. Travel Iron

You will definitely need an iron to start quilting, but this travel iron does the job and doesn't take up much room.
