For the Bernina Activa 230 our score is 10/10, its got all the basic functions / accessories you might need including a walking foot, its easy to use, excellent quality and an all round very capable Sewing Machine.

The Bernina Activa 230 Sewing Machine is very easy to use, all the buttons are clearly marked and most of all in logical places.
The Six Red Buttons on the top left of the machine control the stitch width, needle position and stitch length.
The Six White Buttons on the top right control the memory function and alphabet lettering.
The Three White Buttons on the bottom left control the needle ‘up and down’ positions motor half speed and stitch pattern end.
The Twelve Buttons on the bottom right are for choosing different types of stitches.
Everything else is spread around the machine i.e. thread tension, bobbin winder, needle threader etc etc.
If you are looking for a very good quality machine without thousands of different stitches and functions (that you may never use!) then this is the machine for you. The Bernina Activa sewing machines focus on ease of use and quality, they make excellent sewing machines for patchwork quilting, dressmaking, free hand machine embroidery, general sewing and just about anything else you may want to stitch.
The instruction books are excellent in comparison to other brands.
So why would you buy the Bernina 240S (the next models up), well there’s just simply more fancy stitches, a knee lift system, a better light, a few more accessories (extra feet) and that’s it.
